Country Principal Investigator
BurundiDr. Théodore Niyongabo is the Principal Investigator for Central Africa IeDEA operations in Burundi. He manages the local research team, leads study planning and implementation, and facilitates national dissemination of research findings. He has led multiple studies on the interrelations of nutrition and HIV and coordinated the majority of HIV/AIDS research in Burundi while serving as the Director of the National Center for Research.
Dr. Niyongabo has a MD from the University of Burundi, and completed training in internal medicine at the University of Tours and in infectious diseases at the University of Paris (VI). He also holds a PhD in Clinical & Experimental Methodology from the University of Paris (VII), and a MS in Nutrition Science from the University of Nancy. He is the Director of Burundi Medical and Research Centre and serves as the Department Head for Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at CHU Kamenge – Bujumbura. He also coordinates the Center for Ambulatory Management, providing services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS and undergoing ARV therapy.
